The damage is more than internal. There continues to be an unspoken topic with recovery: depression and anxiety.
Competitive athletes, especially in college, are left not only with the physical strain of their rehab, but the coping and mental rehabilitation required to finally feel whole again.
There needs to be a push for a more holistic approach to the recovery process, once that incorporates psychological/psychosocial rehabilitation as much as, if not more so, than physical.
